Because her husband died not long ago.He was cheating on her before dying,and he told his wife to give the money that get from selling the carriage to his ladylove in his last words.She made the carriage so cheap just because she wanted to revenge on her husband and his ladylove.
因为她丈夫不久前死了。死前他对她不忠，他还在遗书中让妻子把卖马车所得的钱留给他的情妇。她之所以把马车卖得这么贱，就是为了报复丈夫和他的情妇。

In the city that Socrastes was living in,a rich woman was selling a carriage with much gold and many gemstones on it.
在苏格拉底居住的城市，一位富婆正在出售一辆外表缀满了黄金和宝石的马车。

Maybe you are right,but the carriage did cost you only one coin.Just like what you said,no one in the city believed that.They thought the woman just fooled them.
或许你是对的，但这辆马车确实只卖一枚硬币。正如你所说，这座城市里没人相信这回事，他们以为这女人是在拿他们寻开心。

Don't cut in line ,let me go on the story.Socrates sent one coin to the woman when he heard the news.The people around him all thought he was foolish to do that, but after a few days,they stopped laughing at him because the woman sent the carriage to him!
